Michael Faraday synthesised gold nanoparticles back in 1856, so what is new? How could rust, which is magnetic, be used to diagnose and treat diseases such as cancer? How can different shapes of gold nanoparticle such as rods or stars help with killing bacteria on surfaces? Professor Nguyễn spoke about her interdisciplinary and innovative research on the design, synthesis, characterisation, and biofunctionalisation of plasmonic and magnetic nanomaterials for biomedical applications.
